Behind the Scenes: Shooting Time-Lapse Photography in UHD

Do you remember the Nature Time Lapse in UHD video that recently opened on the Samsung Camera YouTube channel? In this video, Samsung Galaxy NX captured the stunning views of Iceland in 4K UHD (Ultra High Definition, 3849 x 2160), which is a size 4 times larger than Full HD (1080p, 1920×1080).

Despite the not-always-perfect weather condition, the shooting went on for nearly two weeks. It was shot through time-lapse photography and we were able to capture the outstanding views offered by Iceland with the GALAXY NX. Here are some images taken at different spots in Iceland.

Due to the nature of time-lapse shooting, the crew had to equip themselves with camping gear. It takes quite a long time to shoot, and standing bythe camera is imperative in most conditions. On the first day in Iceland, the crew arrived in Reykjavik (the capital of Iceland), to shoot the famed Lake Tjörnin. Needless to say, we were face to face with the most incredible view.

When the crew went to Kirkjufell Mountain to capture the waterfall, the wind was blowing so strongly that the crew had to scour out the spot least affected by the wind to set up the equipment and the camera.

As we moved up farther north, the weather began to clear up, so we stopped to film the downstream of a river.

Goðafoss —one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland—literally (and aptly) translates to “waterfall of the gods.”

Setting up our shot at Dettifoss waterfall in the Vatnajökull National Park.

The Krafla volcanic area smelled strongly of sulfur (but nonetheless beautiful!).

And here we are, at Jökulsárlón, a lake that quickly grew due to the melting of the Icelandic glaciers.

Did you enjoy the behind-the-scenes shots and stories of the UHD video? Now it’s your turn to professionally capture amazing scenes with the Samsung GALAXY NX!
