The Promise of December

by

December is a month of many emotions. The overwhelming delight we feel in the joy of the holiday season and the beauty of decorative Christmas lights that illuminate the streets is also a reminder that the year is coming to a close. December is to today as January is to tomorrow, a time to celebrate and savor, a time of reflection, a making way for the future.

On wonderful, fleeting scenes
Throughout the year many wonderful scenes pass into and out of our lives. This process represents a renewal and rejuvenation of sorts, part of life’s natural process. Capturing images of a fleeting instance can be quite meaningful. The image serves as a reminder and reminiscence of that which created a sense of wonder.

Time seems to stand still in these photos. The scenes will be different again with the passing of winter, so the time to capture them is now. New life will spring up; the old will be cleared away to make room for the new. The moment is now.

The end of today, the beginning of a bright tomorrow

Sunsets come early in the December sky. The glow of the setting sun amidst the reddening clouds bids an early good-bye to the winter day. The setting sun serves as a promise of hope. I was here today, it says, and I will be here tomorrow.

Likewise, December is a month of promise, the promise of the year to come. As you bid farewell to 2012, don’t forget to capture its imagery and preserve its memory. For soon will be another day.
